Public
It is important for members of the public to be involved in research. Research which reflects the need and views of the public can lead to more relevant research and is more likely to produce results that can be used to improve practice in health and social care.
Active involvement of the public in healthcare research rather than simply as ‘subjects’ of research can identify different priorities and perspectives and ensure that the research being carried out meets the needs of the community.
Involving the public in NHS research is becoming an increasing priority for healthcare organisations. The Research Governance Framework for Health and Social Care sets out quality guidelines in research.
