I obtained my Bachelor of Science Honours degree in Molecular Biology at Leicester University medical school and subsequently Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery degrees. I completed my basic surgical training in Leicester, Nottingham, Bristol and Exeter.
My higher surgical training in Trauma and Orthopaedics was within the Oxford Postgraduate Training Programme, including a clinical fellowship for a year at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, Canada.
After I was awarded my certificate of specialist training in Trauma and Orthopaedics I returned to Oxford to a clinical fellowship at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre. I was European Paediatric Orthopaedic Society Travelling Fellow in 2003, visiting several centres of expertise in the United States.
I was appointed to my current post as Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon with a Special Interest in Children’s Orthopaedics at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre in 2003.
I have an interest in teaching, audit and research. I have been a tutor to medical students at Leicester, Nottingham, Bristol and Oxford Universities and an Instructor of Advanced Trauma Life Support. I organise the Oxford regional Trauma and Orthopaedic postgraduate teaching programme, having restructured the format, and was responsible for the creation of the www.oxbone.org website.

Published work
I have published several articles and book chapters in subjects relevant to adult and children’s Trauma and Orthopaedics. I have also presented research work locally, nationally and internationally.
Essence of practice
I maintain a general Orthopaedic practice. I have a sub-speciality interest in Children’s orthopaedics, in particular, correction of deformity, dysplasia and Perthes’ disease.
