Please contact us on 01865 227609 during office hours (0830-1700 Mon-Fri) so that we can make an alternative appointment.
- Is there car parking available?
Car parking is pay and display, currently £2 for 4 hours, apart from registered disabled displaying the appropriate badge.
- Where do I go for my appointment?
Please report to the Tebbit Centre Reception. The Gait Lab is situated to the rear of the Tebbit Centre and you will be directed there.
Shorts and T-shirt. If it is usual for you to wear splints/orthoses, use a stick or walking frame etc, then please bring these with you. As the appointment is quite long, feel free to bring a drink or snack.
- Will gait analysis be painful?
No. 3D gait analysis is a non invasive process. All the markers and electrodes will be stuck to the surface of your skin and are only used to record the way you walk.
- How long does an analysis take?
A full 3D gait analysis will take between 2 and 2 ½ hours. A video analysis will take about 1 ½ hours.
In any case, you will only be walking for part of this time and will be allowed as much rest time as you need.
You will be seen by a physiotherapist who will carry out the clinical examination and assist you during the walking phase of your gait analysis. An engineer will also be there to control and co-ordinate the collection of data. Occasionally, there may be an extra person observing for training purposes, as the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre is a Teaching Hospital.
- How long will it take to get the results?
The results will be sent to the person who referred you within four to six weeks. We will also send a copy to your physiotherapist or other Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre health professionals involved. If you would like a copy, please ask at the time of your appointment and we would be happy to send you one. If you were referred from within the NOC, an appointment will be arranged for your referrer to go through the results of the gait analysis with you.
