Oxfordshire Wheelchair Service
Overview
The team is primarily concerned with the supply of wheelchairs and related equipment to Oxfordshire residents with permanent and serious difficulties in walking, some of whom have complex postural problems requiring specialist input.
The majority of our clients are seen by community therapists who are trained to assess various types of manually propelled wheelchairs, accessories and pressure distributing cushions on our behalf. Where more complex requirements are identified, including powered mobility, a request is made for assessment either at the Centre, the person's home or another convenient location.
We have a range of demonstration stock including:
- Wheelchairs
- Cushions
- Complex seating for greater postural support
It is often necessary to adapt equipment to meet individual need. Our Rehabilitation Engineering Department provides assessment, prescription and provision.
The Team
Our team is highly experienced and includes:
- Occupational therapists and an occupational therapy assistant
- Physiotherapists
- A technical instructor
- A clinical scientist
- Rehabilitation engineers
