After graduation from Oxford University Peter Burge trained in Bristol and Oxford, followed by a one year Fellowship in hand surgery at Duke University in the USA. He was Clinical Reader in Orthopaedic Surgery at Oxford University for two years before being appointed Consultant Hand Surgeon at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre and John Radcliffe Hospitals in 1986.
He served as Honorary Secretary (1995-97) and as President of the British Society for Surgery of the Hand (2006), and was Chairman of the Annual Congress of the Federation of European Societies for Surgery of the Hand in 2006.
Mr Burge ran the Instructional Course programme for the British Society for Surgery of the Hand from 2002 to 2004 and lectures regularly on hand surgery in the UK and overseas.
