In the summer of 2010, Dr Tony Berndt was awarded a Pfizer Visiting Professorship to the University of Washington in Seattle. During his visit he gave a serious of talks and attended a range of meetings in different hospitals in the Seattle area. Topics of discussion included bone and joint infection and management of MRSA including his experience of working within the NHS during the highly centrally driven targets for reduction of MRSA.
He also visited some of the well known health systems in the Puget Sound area including Group Health and Virginia Mason, which are renowned for their integrated systems or their “total method” for integrating values, vision, change management, quality and clinical leadership.
