Patient and Public Involvement

Equality and diversity are at the centre of everything we do at the NOC. It is our intent to design our services and train our staff to meet the needs of all sectors of our community. To meet these needs we reply upon the active involvement of our stakeholders/service users when reviewing services and or policies and we invite participation where possible.

We work closely with our partners in the community to help is shape our services and challenge the ways in whcih we serve the community as a whole.

Our Public and Stakeholder engagement has included:

  • A countywide Disability Equality User Involvement Event to shape the Disability Equality Schemes for Oxford Radcliffe Hospitals NHS Trust, Oxfordshire PCT and the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre NHS Trust.
  • An Oxfordshire Equality and Diversity Conference hosted by the NOC to explore the impact of the new Single Equality Scheme; explore diversity in the context of patients; examine best practice and consider the forward for diversity and healthcare provision, which included representatives from Oxfordshire Council of Disabled People, Oxfordshire County Council among others.
  • A one day workshop on how to offer volunteering opportunities to disabled members of the community led by the charity SCOPE.

The NOC continues to engage the community through its Work Experience Programme, open to students aged 16 years and over, by offering five day placements shadowing clinical staff to enable students to make informed choices regarding their prospective careers.

In addition to this we are continually reviewing our policies, procedures and services to ensure that they meet the diverse needs of the community we serve.
